DANVILLE, VA. – VIRginia International Raceway’s South Paddock has been paved over the holiday break, putting down a coat of brand new asphalt and adding lights, power and water hookups for motorcoaches along the pit wall. “This is just one of the improvements we have made for the 2009 racing season,” said track General Manager Josh Lief. “With the new pavement and electric power, participants in events using the South Paddock will have a much improved experience.” New light towers, RV and power hookups are more of the improvements to greet racers. A new kitchen and picnic area in South Paddock will enable VIP service in the South Timing Tower during big events and provide ready access to refreshments. VIR’s 2009 racing season runs the gamut of motorsport, with the best of professional and amateur motorcycle and sports car road racing, plus vintage events for the historic crowd. 2009 Season Spectator Schedule Dates Event March 21-22 WERA Motorcycle Roadracing April 17-19 SCCA Muscle Milk Trans-Am and Oak Tree Double National Races April 24-26 Bosch Engineering 250 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series with Star Mazda Championship; SCCA Pro Racing Jetta TDI Cup; Skip Barber National Championship May 9-10 SCCA SARRC/MARRS Challenge May 26 (tentative) Stock Car Open Test Day June 5-7 Heacock Classic Gold Cup Historic Races June 20-21 Championship Cup Series Motorcycle Roadracing – 9th Annual Virginia Festival of Speed June 27-28 Porsche Club of America Rumble at the Oak Tree August 8-9 WERA Motorcycle Roadracing Cycle Jam Aug. 14-16 AMA Superbike Championship Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals Sept. 19-20 Championship Cup Series Motorcycle Roadracing Oct. 2-4 GT Live Interactive Motorsports Festival Bosch Engineering Grand-Am KONI Challenge Twin Six Hour Races with SCCA Pro Racing Playboy MX-5 Cup and Skip Barber National Championship Oct. 10-11 NASA Oktoberfast Roadracing and German Car Festival Oct. 31 SCCA Charge of the Headlight Brigade 13-Hour Enduro Schedule as of 01/07/08 and subject to change VIRginia International Raceway is a multi-purpose road racing facility, located on the Dan River between Danville and South Boston, Virginia.
