From a press release issued by VIR: DANVILLE, VA – Royal Purple, manufacturer of high performance synthetic oils lubricants and related products, has been named the official oil of VIRginia International Raceway. With a history of quality innovation going back over twenty years, Royal Purple was founded to solve a lubrication problem in the oil production industry. In solving the problems, veteran lubrication engineer John Williams set in motion what would eventually lead to today’s range of products. Because the color purple has historically been associated with royalty, Williams selected the color and name for his company. “We are proud to be associated with VIR. It is a world-class track that is a great match for our products’ reputation,” commented Royal Purple’s Mark McFann. “With the great reputations shared by both Royal Purple and VIR, this is truly a great match.” VIR General Manager Josh Lief echoed McFann’s sentiments. “We work hard to make VIR the best race track we can. This partnership with a fine company such as Royal Purple is just another of the steps we take every year to become better.” Royal Purple will provide the track with lubrication products while VIR provides a testing ground where those products can be evaluated under the most stressful conditions imaginable. VIRginia International Raceway is a multi-purpose road racing facility, located on the Dan River between Danville and South Boston, Virginia. Reopened in 2000, VIR hosts a wide range professional and amateur auto and motorcycle racing and track events, and is well established as “America’s Motorsport Resort.” In addition to its historic 3.27 mile natural-terrain road racing circuit, VIR is the cornerstone of VIR Club, America’s first motorsports country club; the VIR Raceplex Industrial Park and Motorsports Technology Park, which includes the Virginia Institute for Performance Engineering and Research (“VIPER”); the Plantation Valley Kart Track, a 5/8 mile paved natural terrain karting circuit; an expanding variety of on-site lodging (including 45 hotel rooms and the trackside Villas which are for sale); Camp Motorsport for enthusiasts of all ages; and the Oak Tree Tavern, a full-service restaurant located within the circa-1840 Plantation Clubhouse. VIR’s calendar for 2008 includes a new Sports Car Club of America double-national race April 12-13; the return of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototypes, plus supporting events including the inaugural SCCA VW Jetta TDI Cup race plus SPEED Challenge Touring cars, Formula SAE Collegiate Challenge and MOTO-ST motorcycles on April 25-27. “Wings and Wheels” air and car show joins with the Heacock Classic Historic Races vintage weekend, June 6-8.The AMA Big Kahuna Superbike National on August 15-17 brings America’s best Superbike racers to VIR’s North Course; GT Live and the KONI Challenge bring a combination of motorcycle stunts, drifting, track attack and endurance sports car races; all combined with a wide variety of amateur and vintage road racing throughout the year. The season ends with the US Kart Grand Prix, December 12-14. Season passes to VIR’s major events are a great deal. Season passes include preferred parking and access to the major spectator events.
