Season Passes Save VIR Fans Time and Money DANVILLE, VIR. Season passes for VIRginia International Raceway’s 2008 season make a great time and money-saving holiday gift. Order season passes for the entire VIR 2008 calendar by December 18 to ensure delivery for the holidays. Time is running out on the racing value of the season. Passes are priced at only $250 until January 4, when the price changes to $350, still a significant savings over individual ticket prices. Passes can be purchased through the track’s website by clicking on the <> link at www.virclub.com or by using www.etix.com. However they are ordered, season passes make an ideal holiday gift for the race fan on your list. “For the road racing fan, the value pricing on the season passes should make them hard to resist,” said track General Manager Josh Lief. “With the preferred parking added, the savings over individual weekend tickets makes this a great deal.” The list price includes admission to the new Sports Car Club of America ‘Double National’ scheduled for April 12-13. Then two weeks later, the Grand-American Road Racing Series returns the excitement of the Daytona Prototypes of the Rolex Challenge to VIR for the VIR 400. Joining the Rolex prototype racers this year will be the SCCA SPEED Challenge Touring cars, plus the inaugural race of the VW Jetta TDI Cup. Another competition the weekend of April 25-27 is the Society of Automotive Engineers’ Collegiate Design Challenge, pitting university students’ car designs against each other. The “Formula SAE” competition will run on the Patriot Course, challenging the cars and students to the utmost. The popular Stock Car Open Test Day returns on Tuesday, May 27, allowing fans to come watch some of their favorite stock car aces on VIR’s North Course as preparations are made for the races at Watkins Glen and Sears Point. The brightest star in VIR’s sky follows on June 6, 7 & 8, with the Heacock Classic Gold Cup Historic Races, this year honoring “All-American Muscle” cars and joined by Wings & Wheels, the air and car show. Championship Cup Series motorcycle races June 21-22 and a new Porsche Club of America race August 9-10 are the next major events scheduled, followed by the biggest and best yet AMA Big Kahuna Superbike Nationals. This race is traditionally the biggest attraction on VIR’s calendar and has drawn rave reviews from racers and spectators alike. The GT Live/KONI Challenge weekend of October 3-5 brings the widest range of competition to VIR, with motorcycle stunt riding, the street sedans and sports cars of the KONI Challenge series in a , plus track attacks, concerts, drifting and several competitions that spectators can take part in. Always a fan favorite, the 2008 GT Live promises even more enjoyment for guests. Closing the busy spectator calendar is the longest race of the year at VIR: the SCCA Kumho Tires Charge of the Headlight Brigade. This 13-hour race saw a Honda Civic-R beat out the competition by eight laps in 2007, an unusually large margin of victory in this enduro. VIRginia International Raceway is a multi-purpose road racing facility, located on the Dan River between Danville and South Boston, Virginia. Reopened in 2000, VIR hosts a wide range professional and amateur auto and motorcycle racing and track events, and is well established as “America’s Motorsport Resort.” In addition to its historic 3.27 mile natural-terrain road racing circuit, VIR is the cornerstone of VIR Club, America’s first motorsports country club; the VIR Raceplex Industrial Park and Motorsports Technology Park, which includes the Virginia Institute for Performance Engineering and Research (“VIPER”); the Plantation Valley Kart Track, a 5/8 mile paved natural terrain karting circuit; an expanding variety of on-site lodging (including 45 hotel rooms and the trackside Villas which are for sale); Camp Motorsport for enthusiasts of all ages; and the Oak Tree Tavern, a full-service restaurant located within the circa-1840 Plantation Clubhouse.
