Local four time road racing champion Dave Lewis was injured in a high speed crash while in qualifying for the AMA Supersport race, at the Big M weekend at Miller Motorsports Park on Saturday May 28, 2011. Dave was traveling approximately 120 MPH going into turn six on MMP’s perimeter course on his Budweiser/Colonial Flag Ducati 848, when he hit a false neutral while trail braking and was sent over the bars at over 100 MPH. He flipped countless times coming to rest in the dirt and mud, when he stopped flipping he tried to stand up and realized something was terribly wrong. He was loaded into the MMP ambulance and taken to the medic center, where they decided to transport him to the IHC Trauma Center in Salt Lake City . Once there Dave underwent emergency surgery on the neck of his right femur that night, then a second surgery on his left wrist. He was released from the hospital after five long days and is now on his way to a long recovery. The outlook for Dave is unknown at this point, there is a 50/50 chance the bone will die over the next year and a half at which point Dave will have to undergo a full hip replacement. Being that Dave has been in the flooring business for the last 11 years and will no longer be able to do that type of work, he will need financial help during this transition period. Dave is planning on going back to school in the fall for a new career that doesn’t require his body. A website has been created by friends to help Dave Lewis and his family, please visit www.helpdavelewis.com for updates, and to make contributions. The family would like to thank all the Doctors and staff at the IHC Trauma Center, the corner workers and medics at Miller Motorsports Park, Paul and Liz Swenson at Colonial Flag, Rick DeSimon with The Tooele Beverage Company, Pat and Tim Gallagher at Wrights Motorcycle Parts, Matt Spencer with Speed By Spencer, Ray Olsen with Miller Motorsports Park, the AMA, the Utah Sportbike Association, the guys at Falcon Graphics, Blain VonLinger for the website, and everyone who helped with the kids, made donations, called, messaged, and visited Dave.
