Summer Heats Up with WERA Cycle Jam at Road Atlanta

BRASELTON, Ga. One of the biggest motorcycle road racing weekends of the season kicks off on Thursday, bringing both the WERA National Series and the Sportsman Series together for Cycle Jam at Road Atlanta.

Cycle Jam unites the Bridgestone National Endurance Series, Michelin National Challenge Series and most of the Pirelli Sportsman Series regions. Last year, Cycle Jam drew over 1250 entries, and turnout for this year is expected to exceed that number.

“Cycle Jam has become WERA’s most anticipated event,” said WERA President Evelyne Clarke. “Racers plan for this event and the competition is amazing. Road Atlanta is a favorite track for many of the WERA racers across the country and they are more than willing to travel to have the opportunity to race at Road Atlanta.”

Thursday’s schedule includes practice and qualifying for the expert National Series classes. On Friday, the WERA/Bridgestone Endurance Series will take over the track for six hours. Vesrah Suzuki is three for three in wins this season, and they won both rounds at Road Atlanta last year.

The endurance race will begin at 11:00 a.m., with six winners’ trophies up for grabs: overall and one in each of five classes.

The WERA/Pirelli Sportsman Series sprint races will fill up Saturday’s schedule with a total of 17 races. At six laps each, the back-to-back sprints will give fans plenty of racing excitement.

On Sunday, the WERA/Michelin National Challenge Series sprint races get underway. The 11 races will be eight laps each. During the previous round at Miller Motorsports Park, many of the AMA privateers took home top honors. This weekend, though, the WERA racers based in the Southeast will be the ones to challenge for first-place trophies.

During last year’s Cycle Jam, local racer Brian Stokes earned the 600 Superstock win, while Vesrah’s Tray Batey, who hails from Tennessee, took two victories. North Carolina racer Lee Acree also earned top results with a win in Formula 1.

Tickets for the WERA Cycle Jam at Road Atlanta are $35 for all three days of racing, $30 for Saturday and Sunday, and $20 for Sunday’s National Challenge Series races. Camping is also available for the weekend.
