WERA NATIONAL CHALLENGE SERIES R#3!
Easter Sunday saw the riders of the WERA National Challenge Series at Round #3. Talladega Gran Prix Raceway saw Mother Nature smile after rain canceled the Friday Practice Sunday was a picture perfect day! The WERA Easter Egg hunt for kids and riders took place prior to racing and as always was a great success with candy and WERA credits hidden in eggs around the bleacher area at Talladega.
Racing was furious – some of the closest racing was between young gun Gavin Elstad on his Yamaha 600 and WERA Expert Jimmy Merck on his Suzuki 600. Elstad took the 600 Superstock win with Merck and Joseph Giannotto on his Yamaha 600 rounding out the podium. Merck reversed the positions in 750 Superstock with Gillis Glidewell taking third on his Yamaha 600. 600 Superbike belonged to Giannotto with Gabe Oldfield on his Yamaha 600 and Erik Penz on his Yamaha 600 taking podium positions. Oldfield went on to take a win in the 750 Superbike Class.
Novice Derek Bell was the big Novice winner for the weekend he swept 600 Superbike/750 Superbike/750 Superstock/600 Superstock on his Yamaha 600. Daniel McAllister on his Honda 600 took second in 600 Superstock/600 Superbike. Michael Sanders on his Yamaha 600 took a second in 750 Superbike and a third in 600 Superbike and then had his win in Heavyweight Twins Superbike. Stephen Tsotsoros on his Buell 1125 took the Expert win in Heavyweight Twins Superbike with Carlos Gonzalez on his beautiful Triumph 675 in second.
Michael Killian on his Yamaha 600 was awarded the American Flag at Rider’s meeting on Sunday for his service to our country and he also took a second in 750 Superstock.
Tim Price on his Yamaha 600 took third in 600 Superstock. Formula 2 and Formula 3 saw young Caleb Smith on his Moriwaki 250 take the field to school with wins in both classes, followed by fellow young gun Jackson Blackmon on his Moriwaki 250 in both classes and young Gabriel DaSilva on his Honda 150 took third in the Formula 3 Class and won the Mini 80s as well with Daniel Jovi on his Suzuki 65 second in the Mini Class.
Mini 50s belonged to Damian Jigalov on his Honda 50 with Garrett Parker on his Honda 50 taking second. Novice Robert Rosacker on his Suzuki 650 took the win in Lighweight Twins Superstock Expert with Dylan Macon on his Suzuki 650 taking the win in Lightweight Twins Superstock and Formula 2. Joe Barton on his Suzuki 650 took second in both classes.
James Dellinger on his Suzuki 1000 and Luis Zendejas on his Kawasaki 1000 put on a show in both Open Superstock and the Michelin/WERA Superbike with Dellinger taking Michelin/WERA Superbike by an inch and Zendejas scoring top honors in Open Superstock. Colin Gast on his Kawasaki 1000 took third in the Open Superstock. Corey Rachau on his Suzuki 1000 was first in the Novice Open Superstock followed by Peter Nicolosi on his Kawasaki 1000 and Todd Stephen on his Honda 1000.
