WERA/N2 Endurance Series: Mi Scusi SDK Takes 2nd in the Middleweight Class at Nelson Ledges 4-Hour
After dodging weather and flying pop-ups on Friday and residual dampness in Saturday morning practice, the weather cooperated beautifully for Round 3 of the WERA/N2 Endurance Series at Nelson Ledges. The race got off to an exciting start when the one board was caught by the wind and went flying out of the tower towards the riders racing towards Turn 1. Mi Scusi SDK lead-off rider, Sloan West, did his best to avoid damaging the board on his way by.
A short battle ensued with fellow championship contender, Topbox Road Racing, but the action was soon halted by a brief red flag. On the restart, the one board resumed normal operation and Sloan pulled out one of his legendary rocket man starts and for the rest of the first hour Mi Scusi held a position in the top 3 overall.
West was joined by the usual team of Chris Kubricky and Thomas McQuigg as well as John Hvizdak (formerly of 3 Marines Racing and may have been persuaded to join the team with cheesecake) who was standing in for the absent Scott Covington.
After following team captain Melissa Emory’s sage instructions to “stay on the motorcycle,” the team ran a consistent race, nailed its pit stops, and ultimately took 2nd place in the middleweight class. The 2nd place finish extends the middleweight class points lead for Mi Scusi SDK and puts the team in third for overall championship points.
Mi Scusi SDK would like to thank WERA and N2 for putting on yet another great endurance event, Metric Devil Moto for providing the ultra sticky Pirellis, all of the corner workers and fellow competitors making it happen, and our 2008 Yamaha R6 for continuing to not succumb to Chris’ “maintenance” and blue airplane fuel.
