Qualifying for the 600cc Superstock and Open Superstock classes of the Michelin WERA National Challenge series was postponed due to heavy rain Wednesday at Road Atlanta. The two classes normally grid by lap times recorded by riders in short qualifying sessions, but with rain falling all day and four more days left in the annual WERA Grand National Finals event WERA President Evelyne Clarke decided to postpone the qualifying sessions until Thursday afternoon, time and weather permitting. “I don’t want to force anyone to go out there and push it today in the rain,” Clarke told Roadracingworld.com. “If we can get qualifying in tomorrow, great. If not, we will grid them by points.” WERA races in the rain at Road Atlanta, but few riders took part in Wednesday’s wet open practice day. On-track activities were stopped early, just before 4:00 p.m. local time, when the rainfall intensified ahead of a line of severe thunderstorms.
