“To be a Lifetime WERA Motorcycle Roadracing racer a rider has to keep a competition license active for a ten year period with no more than a 60 day lapse. It is a benefit only a few riders enjoy and Ron Raven has been on board with WERA Motorcycle Roadracing since 1975 when we were called ERA. He has raced in modern classes, the National Endurance and has been active in the WERA Vintage Racing program since the 90s! Giving back is what Ron told me when he offered to sponsor the awards for the V2 WERA Vintage Class at the 2014 GNF and for the four WERA Vintage Southeast Rounds in 2015. What he is doing for WERA Motorcycle Roadracing tells me that we do have loyal riders who understand that any help is appreciated and we thank Ron Raven for what he has done for us,” said WERA CEO Evelyne Clarke.
Ron Raven stated, “WERA has been an important part of my life for 40 years. I learned a lot here and made many wonderful friends. Club racing is the essential building block for national and international race programs. In the 80’s I taught a very young Freddie Spencer how to pass. Now those riders and bikes are vintage. I would like to do something to help preserve the heritage of the sport. Not only for us older riders, bur so younger riders will have an opportunity to go ride a piece of history on the track.”
