WERA Kicks Off Two Weeks of Motorcycle Racing at Miller Motorsports Park TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (June 12, 2007) — This is the best possible time of year for motorcycle racing fans in Utah and the western United States, as Western Eastern Racing Association (WERA) arrives at Miller Motorsports Park this weekend, June 15-17, to kick off two weeks of non-stop, two-wheeled excitement. WERA is the largest non-professional motorcycle racing club in America and will attract upward of 200 of the country’s most promising up-and-coming riders to Miller Motorsports Park for the third round of the series. The event will feature the WERA/Bridgestone National Endurance Series and the WERA/Michelin National Challenge Series, as well as the WERA West Pirelli Sportsman Series. Last year, the WERA series was the first public race event held at Miller Motorsports Park and approximately 6,000 fans on the first Saturday came to watch the event. Some of the riders racing this weekend will stay over for the following weekend’s event, the Honda Summit of Speed, featuring the AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited and the Plaza Cycle AMA Supermoto Championship race. The WERA racers will take to the high-speed, 3.06-mile outer track this Friday for practice and qualifying. The racing will get started on Saturday with the six-hour National Endurance Series event, which will take the green flag at 11:30 am. The Vesrah Suzuki team would like to make their win record three for three this season, but they can expect to face stiff competition from the local teams again this year. During last season’s endurance round at Miller, Rave Yamaha proved they had the home-track advantage with an overall win. With five classes competing in the endurance series, there will be plenty of opportunities for local teams to claim victory during Saturday’s long race. Sunday will feature the National Challenge Series sprint races, and racers will have just four laps around the long Miller track to get to the front. Like the endurance series, WERA West racers dominated the sprints last year. In fact, local racers accounted for half of the wins during last year’s inaugural event at Miller. In the expert ranks, Clint McBain, Robert Jensen and Lee Acree will be some of the top names to watch. Up-and-comer McBain has been racing elbow-to-elbow with the veterans of the sport this season, and the three competitors had some hard-fought battles during round two at Barber Motorsports Park. Also scheduled on Sunday is the third round of the Plaza Cycle Utah Supermoto Championship, which will take place on Miller Motorsports Park’s state-of-the-art Supermoto track, which combines dirt off-road sections with the 0.9-mile Miller Kart Track. The following weekend, the excitement continues as the top professional motorcycle road racing and Supermoto teams roll into Miller Motorsports Park for the Honda Summit of Speed, June 22-24. The event includes two feature races for the AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited, along with the Plaza Cycle AMA Supermoto Championship race, plus the AMA Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei Helmets, AMA Superstock Championship presented by Dynojet, the Lockhart Phillips USA Formula Xtreme Championship presented by Help Me Ride, the USGPRU 125cc GP Championship and the second round of the “Magic of Miller” Celebrity Races. Alan Wilson, CEO and General Manager of Miller Motorsports Park, said, “We are happy to be able to offer our two-wheeled enthusiasts two great weekends of the best motorcycle racing in America. With WERA kicking off the festivities this weekend, and the AMA Superbike and Supermoto series coming in next weekend, motorcycle racing fans will get more knee-dragging, handlebar-to-handlebar action than they can imagine!” This weekend, ticketing gates will be open from 8am to 5pm, Friday through Sunday. Trackside admission tickets are priced at only $10 and are available at the Miller Motorsports Park Welcome Center and online at www.ticketmaster.com. Tooele County residents get a 10-percent discount and children 12 and under are always free in trackside admission areas when accompanied by an adult. Tickets for next weekend’s Honda Summit of Speed are also available, with tickets starting at $20. More, from a press release issued by MotoSix, on what happened with USBA/MoM at Miller Motorsports Park last weekend: MotoSix on the Podium at Miller Motorsports Park! MotoSix riders Aaron Clark and Dave Gallant both rode to exciting podium finishes this past weekend in the Master’s of the Mountains series held at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. With temperatures in the low 90s both days with gusty winds, the temperatures and competition were high in the major contingency paying classes. Professional racers Jason Perez, Chad Lewin, and Dale Kiefer were all in attendance hoping to earn a share of the contingency, but series regulars Aaron Clark and Dave Gallant were determined to not make it easy for them. While Dave Gallant raced all 5 money paying races of the day on both his MotoSix.com Suzuki GSXR 600 and Suzuki GSXR 750, Aaron Clark concentrated on the setup of his relatively new Fay Myers sponsored Suzuki GSXR 1000 Superstock bike. The first two Open Supersport and Superbike races of the day proved to everyone at Miller Motorsports Park Aaron Clark is a world class rider. While some predicted the talented Jason Perez would pull away on his Yamaha sponsored R1, lap after lap Clarkie confidently pushed the pace as both riders consistently rode at lap record pace. The short Superstock and Superbike races however were only a warm up for the showdown in King of the Mountain race to be held at the end of the day. Pirelli sponsored riders Aaron Clark and Chad Lewin took their front row starting positions along side Jason Perez for the 14 lap King of the Mountain race late on Sunday afternoon. Right from the start, these three riders pushed each other lap after lap with multiple lead changes in a single corner becoming commonplace. Chad Lewin led a strong race at the front, but Aaron and Jason were always just inches away. With Perez taking over the lead late in the race, Clarkie decided to wait until the last lap to make his move. Three turns from the end, Aaron Clark drove up along side of Jason Perez to take the lead on the brakes. In a fantastic example of dirt-track inspired rear-wheel sliding action, the crowd erupted as Clarkie took the lead in a spectacular fashion. Unfortunately, the pass did not stick and both Perez and Chad Lewin were able to squeeze by at the line. “That was the most fun I have had in years!” stated an excited Aaron Clark. “Jason and Chad are both top notch riders, and even though I came home in third place today I pulled off the track with a huge smile on my face. This is the type of racing fans want to see, and this is the type of racing we are coming to expect when we come here to Miller Motorsports Park. My Fay Myers Suzuki GSXR1000 did a great job today, but initially we struggled a little bit with setup. Josh Bryan of TigersharkRacing.com is the one that got me on this podium today, and his Pirelli tires and setup advice made the difference between a good bike and a great bike. Any time I can battle with two riders like Jason Perez and Chad Lewin means we nailed our setup and had our tires working perfectly” added Aaron Clark. Racing a marathon of sprint races, Dave Gallant methodically lowered his times throughout the day to culminate in a 2nd place finish behind Chad Lewin in Heavyweight Supersport. “Like Clarkie, I had a hard time getting the bikes working the way I wanted them to yesterday. Josh from Tigershark sat down with just about every Pirelli rider here and helped step through our specific issues, and then helped each one of us forumlate a solution. Throughout the day things got better and better, and in that last Heavyweight race Chad and I ran away from the pack. Thanks to Leo Vince and K&N we have always had the power to get the job done, but with help from people like Josh & Pirelli were are now getting that power to the ground much better” commented an exhausted Dave Gallant. MotoSix rider’s Aaron Clark and David Gallant will compete next with the MRA at Motorsports Park Hastings July 7th and 8th.
