WERA’s 44th Grand National Final Happening This Coming Weekend At Barber Motorsports Park

PREVIEW OF 44TH WERA GRAND NATIONAL FINALS!

October 20th to the 23rd the 44th WERA Grand National Finals will be at the beautiful BarberMotorsportsPark outside of Birmingham, Alabama.

This year’s event will be dedicated to longtime WERA Official John Shepard who has been with us in Tech and at Pit Out for 30+ years. John is in hospice and we know that he would much rather be at Pit Out this coming weekend!

The weekend starts with a full day of practice on Thursday. Friday will see the WERA National Vintage Series run their final round as well as some of our WERA Sportsman Series winner-take-all National Finals. The Historic Moto GP Group will join us on Friday to showcase some of the historic machines that have raced and won championships in the past!

Saturday the balance of the WERA Sportsman Series winner-take-all National Finals will wrap up. Riders from all across the US have been invited to come out and compete for the National WERA Sportsman Title in their classes! Champions will receive awards and #1 Plates at the end of Thursday and Friday for the classes run that day.

On Saturday the Grom Cup by Honda will kick off the racing at 12:30pm – this 4-lap race will carry a purse and will crown the 2017 Grom Cup by Honda Champion! The purse posted is $250.00 to the winner; $175.00 to 2nd and $125.00 to 3rd place. The Friday and Saturday WERA Sportsman Finals also carry contingency from many of the OEMs and Kawasaki announced that they will pay contingency for the Sportsman Finals as well as the National Finals.

Sunday the riders of the Pirelli/WERA National Challenge Series sanctioned by AMA will have their final round. The 600cc Pro Superbike will have a purse for riders from 1st through 5th with 1st place being $700.00 (VIR moved to GNF and NOLA round); 2nd place $500.00; 3rd place $300.00; and if more than 20 riders take the start 4th place will be $150.00 and 5th place will be $100.00. Also on Sunday’s Schedule will be the final round of the Michelin/WERA Superbike Class.

On Sunday the feature class will be the bLU cRU Yamaha R3 Cup Final. This race is for riders on the Yamaha R3 who have competed in two prior WERA E Superstock Classes in 2016. Prizes are on the line for both Expert and Novice participants for this final.

1st Place Expert will receive a new Yamaha R3 street motorcycle with 2nd place receiving a Yamaha EF3000iS Generator and 3rd place receiving a Yamaha 3028B Pressure Washer. Novice awards are a TrackSkinz Leather Suit and Arai Helmet for 1st; a Yamaha EF2000iS Generator for 2nd and a Yamaha bLU cRU Canopy for 3rd place.
