Brant Wiwi is recovering from injuries suffered during a high-speed crash at Thunderhill Raceway Park on June 12 during practice for the fourth round of the 2010 AFM season. Wiwi apparently had a throttle stick open on his GSX-R1000 and flew off the track at more than 150 mph on the outside of Turn 10, he told Roadracing World in a phone call from his hospital bed at the Enloe Medical Center in Chico, California. He was airlifted out of the racetrack. Wiwi, a former WSMC Overall Champion and a regular on grids in the Western U.S., suffered 11 broken vertebrae, four breaks in his right hand, four broken ribs, a punctured right lung, and damaged the ligaments in his left leg beyond repair. “Obviously, I’ve been better, but I have good friends supporting me, and the response from the industry and the community has been amazing, so I’m actually in a really good place right now,” Wiwi told Roadracing World Friday. Wiwi’s friends have established a website where items and services will be sold and auctioned off to help offset the costs of Wiwi’s care. The website, which is scheduled to be updated on a regular basis with new items, sales and auctions, also can accept donations. The site is ~http://www.gowiwigo.com~.
