Dibrino Dominates, Gessner Finds Competition at the Ridge

WMRRA Round 7, the Ridge Motorsports Park, Shelton, Wa. September 1-2, 2012

While cool, foggy weather threatened early in the morning on both Saturday and Sunday, the clouds soon disappeared, leaving behind brilliant sunshine over the busy Ridge Motorsports Park. The local contending faces showed for the event, along with other racers visiting from Canada and Oregon. The Novice field saw empty grid positions, as many of the racers graduated to the Expert class. The Ninja 250 Cup was again a field of about 20 riders, and featured ultra-close, competitive racing.

The 600 Supersport, 750 Supersport, and 600 Superbike classes all saw full-fledged battles between Andy Dibrino and Ryan “Chromie” Sutton. Dibrino, age 18, took all three victories, one of which came after Sutton crashed out in the Carousel after setting a new WMRRA lap record of 1:39.555. Sutton escaped without serious injury.

The Ultra Lightweight Sportsman and 250 Ninja cup, two of the most competitive classes WMRRA hosts, were almost replays of one another up until the fifth lap of the Ninja Cup, in which the #918 of Jack Stevens and #93 of Bill Cameron got together on the front straight, locking Stevens’ front brake, causing him to crash, red-flagging the race. Andrew Rodgers stretched an early gap on the rest of the field both races.

In both Novice races, the #956 of Robert Stallman ran away for the win. When interviewed after the races, he released that he had just started doing track days in March of this year and this was only his second round of racing.

On Saturday, points leader John Gessner found his hands full with Brian MacConaghy, and was defeated in both races. Gessner returned on Sunday, putting his head down and charging far ahead of Sean Galt in both races.

The Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association was formed in 1974 to organize and promote the sport of motorcycle road racing in Washington State. WMRRA currently races at two tracks in the state, Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington, and the newly constructed Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington. More, from another press release issued by WMRRA:

WMRRA Endurance Round 2 – The Ridge Motorsports Park, Shelton WA

The Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association (WMRRA) held its final round of Endurance Racing sponsored by Canright Construction & Associates, at the Northwest’s newest race track, The Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton Washington on Labor Day, September 3rd. The WMRRA “usual suspects” were joined by visiting riders from Oregon and Canada. The event concluded a full weekend of racing with sprints taking place on Saturday and Sunday.

The day began with a 2 hour event for the Ultra-lightweight class fielded entirely of Kawasaki Ninja 250’s. The Ninjettes gridded up in damp and foggy conditions, which started to clear about half-way into the race. The ULW sportsmen (and woman) put on a great show devoid of mechanical failures or off track excursions. In the end, team Wildwood/Skagit Power Sports edged out Year 112 Racing by just one lap.

Before the 6-Hour competitors gridded, they were welcomed by sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 70’s. When it was over, only 2 laps separated the top three teams with the 2Fast Donkeys (GSXR 1000) edging out Misery Racing (GSRX 750). Spare Parts LTD, the overall winner in the previous round, took their Yamaha R6 to third overall, and first in Middleweight. A crash in the middle of the race which took 12 minutes to repair, kept Spare Parts LTD off the top of the box this round. When the LW team of Some Clowns Racing crashed out in the second hour, Some Other Clowns Racing cruised to the win in LW.
