Arclight Suzuki’s Jeff Wood and Main Line BMW’s Nate Kern each won three CCS sprint races Saturday at Barber Motorsports Park, in Birmingham, Alabama. Originally, Wood was not entered in Saturday’s races on the twin-sprint weekend. He planned to wait until Sunday to race in the Suzuki-contingency-paying sprints (as well as the ASRA Nationals), but when he learned CCS had mistakenly entered him in Saturday’s races and morning rains gave way to sunny skies and a dry track in the afternoon, he made the entries official and convincingly swept all three events he entered. Riding his GSX-R750, Wood won in Unlimited Supersport and Heavyweight Supersport, and on his Dunlop-equipped GSX-R600, he won in Middleweight Supersport. Kern rode his Pirelli-shod BMW R 1200 S to dominant victories in Lightweight Supersport, Lightweight Superbike and Lightweight Grand Prix. He also raced in the Unlimited Supersport and Unlimited Superbike contests, finishing third and fourth, respectively, on his K 1200. Other race winners Saturday included: Dave McEnery in the wet Unlimited Superbike race on his Kinetic Motorsports Suzuki GSX-R1000, Dave Estok on his Veatch Motorsports Buell XB-12R in the wet SuperTwins event, Team Stargel’s Brian Stokes in the wet Middleweight Superbike race on his Kawasaki ZX-6R, Ryan Patterson on his Absolutecycleperformance.com-sponsored Yamaha YZF-R6 on a damp-but-drying track in Middleweight GP, Andy Feuersthaler in the dry Heavyweight Superbike race on his Suzuki GSX-R750, and Harley-Davidson/Buell of Frederick’s Bryan Bemisderfer on his XB-12R in Thunderbike.
