Barni Racing Team backs on track with eyes on safety 

It’s a kind of dry run looking at the restart of racing. On Thursday 28 May, at the Marco Simoncelli World Circuit in Misano Adriatico,  the Barni Racing Team will take to the track for a day of testing. The key word is: work safely. For once, as well as on the bikes, the attention will be focused on how to work inside the box due to the Coronavirus issue. The test day will be used to get familiar with new methods and operational flows to resume the activity on the track.

The mechanics will wear gloves, masks and protective visors, the access to the pit will be controlled and restricted, with lines to maintain social distancing and with the presence of bottles and gel dispensers to create fixed hygiene points.

Riders, in addition to PPE, will have at their disposal a specific helmet sanitizer.

The Barni Racing Team has decided to make the most for this first opportunity to get back on track by lining up the entire team: Samuele Cavalieri and Michele Pirro (also involved with the Ducati MotoGP test team) will be on track with the Ducati Panigale V4 R in CIV configuration. Despite the fact that is not possibile to test with Leon Camier, forced to remain in Andorra due to the travel restiction during the Covid period, the need to test some technical components led the team to bring the WorldSBK version on the track as well.  In Leon’s place, Randy Krummenacher will take the saddle of the four-cylinder bike from Borgo Panigale. Approached by his chief mechanic Manuel Cappelletti, who is also a Barni Racing Team mechanics in CIV, Randy is resident in Italy and available for this test day after receiving the permission of the MV Augusta team.

“When the opportunity for this test came up, I decided to take part right away, for us getting back on track is the main thing, but we want to do it safely. That’s why we will focus on the bikes, but above all in organizing the box areas and the work flow according to the new requirements. We will have to adapt trying to keep our distance and individual responsibility will be the key factor, but through this test we want to show that get back on track safely is possible. We will have at our side Meccanocar, a company from Pisa, that will provide us personal protective equipment and sanitizing products from now until the end of the season. At the end I really would like to thank Andrea Quadranti of MV Augusta who give us the opportunity to test with Randy.”
