The race was originally started in the dry, but when it started raining and riders started crashing it was stopped by a red flag. The race was restarted for nine laps on a fully-wet track. Tom Sykes failed to make the restart after retiring with a mechanical problem during the first leg. Canadian Brett McCormick crashed out of the first leg and also did not make the restart.
