TIE, Rea/Tamburini, 32 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: PARKALGAR HONDA’S Sam Lowes took a best ever second place in the sixth round of the World Supersport Championship at Aragon in Spain after enjoying a race long fight for the win right to the chequered flag. Miguel Praia starting from 15th rode well and won a thrilling last corner dice to take ninth by just 0.001seconds. The next round of the Championship is at Brno in the Czech Republic on 10th July, however, Sam is in action again next weekend Sunday 26th June at the Mallory Park Race of the Year. Sam: “It’s been a decent weekend. I suffered a couple of crashes that were my mistakes but I have scored my best ever finish as well. I struggled to keep pace at the start but as the tyres wore it came back to me and I was sitting in third. I was on the limit and then it was unfortunate for Broc to crash. Chaz then picked up his pace and I couldn’t see where I could overtake. It’s another podium and that is good – I just want to get riding again now and can’t wait for Mallory Park next weekend to be racing at home.” Miguel: “That was a good hard race and I am really happy to take ninth place right at the end. My Parkalgar Honda was good and I was able to run very consistent lap times and towards the end I got a good top 10 finish. My shoulder injury is much better and now I am looking forward to racing at Brno.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “Sam aggravated his shoulder injury in a small crash this morning and that meant he couldn’t change direction quick enough to get into the draft on the straight. He composed himself well and rode a great race – his best ever result, it is only a matter of time before he wins. “Miguel rode a good race. At one point he was six seconds behind Marino and he kept his cool and simply reeled him in. It was Miguel’s best ride of the year, a great job.” More, from a press release issued by Bogdanka PTR Honda: BOGDANKA PTR HONDA’S Pawel Szkopek scored a brilliant 13th place and three points at the sixth round of the World Supersport Championship at Aragon in Spain – just one position behind his best ever. James Ellison on the other Bogdanka PTR Honda made a good start and was moving up the field on lap two when we was forced to retire with a brake problem. Marcin Walkowiak finished 19th in his season best performance on the Bogdanka PTR Honda 1000cc Superstock racer. The next round of the Championship is at Brno in the Czech Republic on 10th July, however, James is in action again next weekend Sunday 26th June at the Mallory Park Race of the Year. Pawel: “I did not get a great start but did not panic. Instead, I rode my own race and as the laps went by I caught up a lot of riders. 13th is my second best result ever and I am very happy. This is a good day for Bogdanka PTR Honda.” James: “I felt good and was passing riders when my brakes faded and I was forced to retire. We had found some pace for the race and I think if I had been able to finish the top five was possible. It is disappointing but we will get stronger from here.” Marcin: “I targeted the top 20 in the race and achieved it. This is an important step forward for us and thank you to my team for working so hard – and I think we can see continue to get better from here.” Simon Buckmaster, Bogdanka PTR Honda Team Manager: “Pawel got a bad start but he kept his head and got in the points. It is his second points scoring finish and a good effort. “James retired when his brakes faded badly and there is no doubt the pads in his bike are glazed. It is disappointing because he was a top six finisher for sure, the early lap times show that. “Marcin improved a lot and is now in the top 20. We need to build on that and are looking for him to challenge for the points. He’s made a big step in performance this weekend.” More, from a press release issued by Yamaha ParkinGO Team: The key victory: Yamaha ParkinGo comes back to the top of the podium, thanks to Chaz Davies, what it has been the nicest race of the season. The Kawasaki have started as favourites , but Chaz Davies and “The Rocker” Scassa were straight away on Broc Parkes back. During the race the Bristish rider was able to remain behind the Australian, but meanwhile Lowes past Scassa and lost contact with the group. On the seventh lap, the difficulty of being at all times on the limit made him loose a couple of positions and be passed by Salom and Roccoli. Davies though remained on the second place, keeping Lowes behind him at all times. The race continued in this order till eight laps to the end where The Yamaha ParkinGO rider did his first attack for first position. Three laps to the end, Broc Parkes crashed due to the pressure of Davies and gave him the third victory of the season. Bad luck though for Luca Scassa that finished the race earlier due to a crash four laps to the end when he was in sixth position. Chaz Davies Yamaha YZF R6 #7 – “This victory is thanks to the great job the Team has done. The mechanics have been working till late at night to find a better set up for the race and they got it. I did a good start and I understood on the first laps that I was going to be with Broc Parkes. Half way through the race I decided to do a bit of pressure to attack close to the end but he did a mistake and gave me the lead again of the championship.” Luca Scassa Yamaha YZF R6 #9 – “It has been a difficult weekend and I haven’t been able to be confident with the front of the bike, reason why I crashed three times. Now we have to reset everything, get back the confidence lost and try to do better in Brno where I hope to be upfront.” Giuliano Rovelli team owner – “This has been the best race Chaz has done. The whole weekend has been very difficult for us but no one has given up and at the end Chaz has finished the great job that the mechanics started. I am sorry for Luca, this crash makes him go backwards in the championship but I am quite sure he will know how to come back stronger.” More, from a press release issued by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda: Fabien Foret and Florian Marino both recorded top ten finishes in today’s six round World Supersport championship race at Motorland Aragon in Spain but they were not the results either had hoped for. Coming into the weekend without any significant set-up data after a sub-zero winter test, temperatures in the mid-thirties did not help the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team achieve an optimum setting for the riders’ CBR600RR machines. The race was one by Britain’s Chaz Davies but, with other series contenders Broc Parkes and Luca Scassa both crashing out of contention and with six rounds still to go, the championship is far from over. Foret sits in fifth place after finishing seventh in today’s 18-lap race around the 5.344km Aragon circuit, while his team-mate Marino finished tenth to stay in ninth overall in the series. Fabien Foret 7th This weekend has been a bit o f a nightmare. We couldn’t find a setting to suit the track or my riding style, or both. I thought we had found a little something in warm-up but we made another small change before the race and I don’t know whether it was that or the heat, but I didn’t really get a good feeling. There weren’t really many positive points to the race and, although I tried hard everywhere, the lap times weren’t there. We’ll just put this one behind us and think about the next race, which I’m sure will be an improvement. Florian Marino 10th It’s the second bad weekend for us and I’m so sorry for my mechanics and the whole team. It’s a shame because we don’t deserve this result our place is at the front. We changed the setting a little for warm-up and the race but it still wasn’t going how I want. The start was OK but I made a big mistake at the hairpin and I l ost a lot of time. Then I got into a group just behind Fabien but I could only stay with them for five or six laps. I was having to push so hard that I got quite tired towards the end. Now we have a couple of weeks to rest and prepare for Brno, which is a place I like very much. I was second last year in Superstock and I won there with the Red Bull Rookies, so I will be hoping for better things there, for sure. Ronald ten Kate team manager: Well it’s not been the weekend we had hoped for after last week’s fantastic ride from Fabien. We were not able to find a setting that would allow either rider to push for the lap times that were required in qualifying or in the race today. We found something in warm-up this morning and made a couple of changes in the same direction, but maybe the increased temperature caused them not to work. We’ve played catch-up all weekend and that’s been reflected in the r esults. Now we head to Brno where we already have an idea what works, so we’re looking forward to that now. More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Salom Storms The Podium At His Home Race WSS, Motorland Aragon, Spain, 19 June 2011 David Salom fought back from a poor start to take a career best of third after 18-laps of Aragon, making this his best race finish in his entire WSS career to date. Salom was down in seventh on lap one, from his qualifying spot of second, as his team-mate and pole man Broc Parkes led. By the end of the race Salom had made up ground at a very high pace to take a clear top three, ending up 4.6 seconds behind winner Chaz Davies, with Sam Lowes second. Parkes was unlucky in the final part of the race, having led and looked comfortable in that position until the mid part of the race. Losing front tyre grip but trying to keep his closest rival Davies behind him, he slid off on lap 16 of 18. Despite trying to get going again he had to retire and no scored. Despite the disappointment of losing the championship lead to Davies, Parkes is still a strong overall second after six rounds, with another six to go. The best news of the day for the Provec Motocard.com Kawasaki team is that Salom has now propelled himself to third overall, as he makes his own assault on the championship lead. More good news came along for the battling Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki rider Massimo Roccoli, as the Italian posted a season best fourth, and in doing so jumped two places up the championship rankings to eighth. Right behind Salom for much of the race as they made forward progress, Roccoli eased off to make sure he scored points after some difficult early periods in this intense season. Roccoli’s team-mate Vittorio Iannuzzo retired from the race. David Salom: “We got a podium, which I have been chasing all year, so that is fantastic. But, overall, I cannot say it was the best race it could be because I had problems with the clutch biting point at the start and lost some places. My race pace, I think, was better than the other riders. It was a good race for the team, but I wanted to have more. I think I could have had a first or second. But we took the first podium in Spain, so my first top three is great for the family, friends, my Spanish team, Kawasaki and for the first WSS race at Motorland Aragon.” Broc Parkes: “It was all going fine at the front, all under control. Then the front tyre felt that it was moving a little bit under me, from about half race distance. I was struggling to control the pace and a couple of times I lost the front. I tried to back down a little bit and then it started to feel OK. I had three laps to go and I knew there were two riders behind me and the gap back to them was pretty much the same. Then I made a mistake and lost the front. Maybe on days like that you should finish and settle for the points in third, or something like that. Anyway, it didn’t work out and I am really upset because it was good points we lost.” Massimo Roccoli: “Not so bad, a top four and I finished with very good points. I started the season with some bad luck so here, in the last three laps, I thought it was important to just arrive at the finish and take the points. The podium was not important. I am happy for the team and myself as this was a good result for our hard work. I hope the last six races of the year will be more like this one. More, from a press release issued by Yamaha: Davies Claims Superb Spanish Victory Chaz Davies provided a remarkable race in this afternoon’s Spanish heat to claim his third victory of the season and fifth race win for the Yamaha ParkinGO team. A perfect start from fourth position on the grid saw Davies shoot into second place. The Brit immediately set the pace and was consistent throughout. Closely tailing Parkes for the first 15 laps, Davies moved in and was ready to take the lead, when the Australian crashed out of contention. Davies crossed the finish line just half a second ahead of fellow Brit Sam Lowes, in second. Team-mate Luca Scassa had a less fortunate race day in Aragon. Struggling to maintain the pace, the Italian lost the front of his machine causing him to crash out with just four laps to go. Yamaha have further increased the gap in the manufacturer’s standings now leading by 27 points. Davies leaves Aragon topping the rider’s standings with a total of 105 points, 20 points ahead of Parkes in second. Scassa now sitting in fourth place with 70 points, is just one point behind Salom in third. Yamaha ParkinGo team head to Brno for round seven of the WSS Championship in just three weeks’ time. Chaz Davies Yamaha ParkinGO Team – 1st “It was a very good day especially considering all the issues I had throughout the weekend. I went into the race a bit blind and knowing that Parkes was so strong all weekend. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I figured if I could hold on for the first 10 laps and make the tyres last that I’d probably be ok. I just had to make sure I kept the pace till the very end. I can’t thank the team enough for the hard work all weekend, they were amazing. It’s a pretty great bonus after such a difficult weekend. A huge thanks to all the crew, to Yamaha, Monster Energy and all my sponsors.” Luca Scassa Yamaha ParkinGO Team – DNF “We had a lot of problems over the weekend. Even when we were testing here we had a few issues, so it’s just not my track. We tried so many solutions but failed to find a good set up and improve lap times. Three crashes in one weekend is too much so I’m going to put it behind me, forget about the bad weekend and look forward to Brno.”
