Jason DiSalvo, 21 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: Laverty wins to reclaim lead in title race PARKALGAR HONDA star Eugene Laverty comfortably won his fifth race from eight starts at Misano in Italy and claimed the lead in the World Supersport Championship by three points while his team mate Miguel Praia enjoyed a career best equalling ninth. In glorious sunshine Eugene took the lead on lap three and controlled the race until the chequered flag while Miguel was involved in a race long battle for ninth. The ninth round of the World Supersport Championship takes place at Brno in the Czech Republic on July 11th. For more information on the team visit Parkalgar Honda. Eugene: “Early on in the race I bided my time as I didn’t want to make any silly mistakes, then I got into the lead and kept pushing. When Kenan made a mistake I went for it. My Parkalgar Honda was spot on; we made a break-through on front end feel in warm-up and then we improved it again for the race we got the bike doing exactly what I wanted it to do so it’s a big thank you to the whole team. It is a relief and weight off my shoulders to be back in the lead of the Championship. I got to within one point and it reminded me of last year when I got close but it always went away from me so it’s nice to get into the lead where we belong and to have five wins out of eight races.” Miguel: “That is my equal best result of my career so I am happy. I was comfortable although it was a hard hot race. I lost a little time at the start and that meant I missed the tow to the group fighting for sixth eighth. The times were close and I think if I had got the start then I could have competed for those places. My Parkalgar Honda was absolutely fantastic and when I got in front of Salom I made a break with some quick laps so he couldn’t overtake me on the last lap. I think it has been a good race meeting.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “Eugene rode great, it was a flawless race. The three usual riders were at the front but Kenan made a couple of mistakes and that allowed us a comfortable win. It is nice to be back in the lead of the World Championship for the first time since the opening round but there are five rounds still to go and may the best man win. Miguel rode the best race of his career in my opinion, he deserved ninth place. It could have been better if he had got away faster but nothing can be taken away from him, he did a good job and it’s been a great day for the whole Parkalgar Honda team.” More, from a press release issued by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda: Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Kenan Sofuoglu maintained his 100% podium record for the season by finishing third in today’s eighth round World Supersport championship race at Misano in Italy. The race was won by Honda-mounted Eugene Laverty, who now holds a slender three-point lead over Sofuoglu in the championship standings, with five races remaining. Starting from sixth place on the grid, Sofuoglu patiently worked his way up to third after a typically frantic World Supersport start. The Turk set the fastest lap of the race on lap six as he hunted down leaders Laverty and Joan Lascorz. With the top three covered by half a second at mid-race distance, Sofuoglu tried to pass Lascorz for second place but ran wide at turn eight. He got back into contention to repeat an almost identical manoeuvre at the same corner five laps later, and tried a third pass on the Spaniard at Misano’s hairpin on lap 19, but ran wide again and was forced to settle for third. His Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Michele Pirro, meanwhile, started the 21-lap race from pole position but found himself battling in sixth place in the opening laps. At the end of lap four, Pirro clipped the rear wheel of British rider Gino Rea, sending both skittling into the gravel on the final corner. Both riders were unhurt but neither was able to rejoin the race. Kenan Sofuoglu 3rd It just has not been my day, or my weekend, really. I think I had the pace to win the race today, but because I wasn’t able to put a good qualifying lap together yesterday, I had to start from the second row. That made the first laps difficult and Eugene was able to get away. When I caught Lascorz I was very keen to pass him as soon as I could but I kept making mistakes when I tried. It was very frustrating, but at least we are still there in the championship. Michele Pirro DNF I think a podium could have been possible today the tyre was good and the bike was fast. I am sorry for the crash with Gino Rea, both for him and for all the fans that came from my home town to support me at Misano today. I wasn’t even trying to overtake him but I couldn’t avoid running into the back of his bike. Apart from that, the weekend was quite positive and it was good to get pole position yesterday. Now we can test at Imola this week and try to prepare for the next race at Brno, when I can expect a better result than this. Ronald ten Kate team-manager Of course, we were hoping for better results from both sides of the garage but a bad start and some mistakes on the opening laps can lead to a position where accidents like Michele’s can happen. I feel sorry for Gino, too, who looked like he was having a great ride until that point. We opted to put Kenan out with a different tyre to that of his competitors, one that would give us an advantage at the end of the race. That plan seemed to be working but, unfortunately, his overtakes didn’t! Mistakes like this can happen though, and we’re still fully in the championship race, which looks set to continue right to the end of the season. More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Lascorz Second and Closer To The Top WSS, Misano, Republic of San Marino, 27 June 2010 Joan Lascorz rode with heart and skill at Misano to finish second on his Ninja ZX-6R, gaining some ground in the championship fight after eight of 13 rounds have been completed. With Pere Riba taking over crew chief duties this weekend Joan worked hard through practice and in today’s 22-lap race, overcoming all challengers except eventual winner Eugene Laverty. Joan led over the line for the first two laps, but despite riding close behind Laverty for some time he could not stay with the fleeing Irish rider. Having qualified fourth Joan expected to maybe have more company in the race, but three attempts by Kenan Sofuoglu to pass Joan finally came to nothing as the Kawasaki rider defended his position well and Sofuoglu ran wide, losing ground each time. In the championship fight, Laverty has 161 points, Sofuoglu 158 and Lascorz 148, only 13 points from the lead with five rounds left to race. Motocard.com Kawasaki team regular Katsuaki Fujiwara missed this race due to a bout of severe appendicitis. Fabien Foret (Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki) was eighth today, and is now 11th overall. Joan Lascorz: “We did a lot of work on set-up this weekend and I am quite happy to get second place. There is still quite a battle going on in the championship between Laverty, Sofuoglu and us. We had good pace in the race but just not enough to catch Laverty. Maybe we could have chosen a different tyre to use but second is not so bad, and we are now only 13 points behind the lead in the championship.” More, from a press release issued by ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing: Chaz Davies will remain in the memory for a long time as the Brit aroused the 69.000 people who turned up at the Santamonica circuit in Misano Adriatico, after engaging in a four-rider duel for the entire race, during which he displayed all his skills and was a tremendous crowd pleaser. The result allowed Davies to maintain his fourth place in the overall standings, in front of teammate David Salom, who finished tenth today. Behind the Spaniard finished Lagrive, eleventh and rookie Iannuzzo, who was twelfth. The latter managed to fix the problems that slowed him down in practice and rode a very good race. CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 4th : “I can’t be fully satisfied with the result because I wanted to battle for the podium. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a setup that would allow me to do that. I didn’t have a very good grip when exiting the corner and didn’t get a good feeling with the back end under braking, probably because of the tyre choice we made. I had to battle for the entire race with Tamburini and Harms and had a lot of fun duelling with them”. DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | 10th : “During warm up, everything was going well, but the temperature of the surface changed. This caused the tyres to work differently than expected, which didn’t allow me to ride as in the morning warm up session. I therefore decided to gather as many points as possible and secure the fifth place in the overall standings”. MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 11th : “I managed to fix the problems I had in practice only during warm up . Although I started from behind, I improved a lot in race but I hope to do better at Brno”. VITTORIO IANNUZZO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 12th : “I’m happy with my first performance. The feeling with the bike increased lap after lap and I managed to understand it better. I made some experience which will come in handy at the next round, held at Brno, where I hope to make a further step forward and battle for the top 10″.
