Maria Herrera won Race One of the World Women’s Circuit Racing season-ending races at Jerez, finishing just ahead of title rival Ana Carrasco and keeping her slim title hopes alive going into Sunday’s final race.

Herrera took the lead after Sarah Sanchez crashed on the final lap while fighting to keep the lead, which she had held for most of the race. Carrasco took second by 0.021 seconds over Beatriz Neila after drafting past at the line.

With one race remaining, Carrasco leads Herrera 228-215.

American Mallory Dobbs finished ninth, and fellow American Sonya Lloyd crashed out.
