Yamaha U.S. Road Racing Teams Looking To Clinch Two Superbike Shootout Championships This Weekend At Miller Motorsports Park In Utah
Cypress, CA – May 21, 2014 – The GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout Presented By Yamaha concludes with the Arai Mountain Nationals this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT. The Yamaha U.S. Road Racing Teams are leading both the Pro Sportbike and Pro Superbike points standings, and the big-blue crew and riders will be working hard to win both races this weekend and clinch the championships in both classes.
The previous two rounds of the Superbike Shootout–at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA, and at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, CA–have been well-attended by fans who have not only seen great racing on track, but have gotten autographs and met the Yamaha U.S. Road Racers up-close in the paddock. There will be more of the same excitement and Yamaha activities this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park, and Yamaha also extends a special invitation to American service men and women to visit the Yamaha hospitality area during the race weekend.
Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Superbike
Leading the Pro Superbike class aboard his #2 Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R1 is Cameron Beaubier, who will be going for the win and the Superbike Shootout championship on Miller Motorsports Park’s 10-turn, 2.183-mile West Course. He’ll face strong competition from right within his own team, however, as three-time U.S. Superbike champ Josh Hayes will be going all out for the win aboard his #4 Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha R1.
“Miller has a lot of cool things to offer both the riders and the fans,” Josh commented. “It’s fast and flowing, with some hard braking, and it’s a great place to watch racing. Cameron and I are looking to put on a great show, and I’m going to do my best to get the win over my very fast teammate.”
Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Sportbike
Garrett Gerloff, rider of the #8 Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R6, is currently tied for the points lead in Pro Sportbike, and a win at Miller will clinch the championship for the 18-year-old Texan. According to Garrett, “Miller is one of my favorite tracks, and I’ve done a lot of laps around that circuit. I’ll be trying hard to get the win and wrap up my first professional road racing championship this weekend.”
Garrett’s teammate JD Beach, who is brand-new to the Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha team this year, has been acclimating quickly to his new #6 R6 and is working well with experienced crew chief Geoff Cesmat. JD will be looking to improve even more this weekend with a podium finish at Miller.
Meet Josh, Cameron, Garrett, and JD This Weekend
Yamaha’s “Fast Four” will be available to meet fans and sign autographs throughout the weekend, and a special team autograph session will take place at the Yamaha garage on Sunday, May 25, from 1:00 to 1:30 PM MST.
