Yoshimura Suzuki’s Aaron Yates was leading the AMA Superbike race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on lap 11 of 26 when the race was stopped for debris on the racetrack from Scott Carpenter’s crash in turn two. Seconds before the red flag, Miguel Duhamel, who had led at one point of the race, had entered the pits to get a new rear tire. The race will be restarted. Roger Hayden was not in the race. Due to the riders’ boycott of the heat races Sunday morning, the Superbike grid was formed based on the heat race results and then provisional starting spots awarded based on Championship points. Because Roger Hayden was not in the top 10 in Superbike points, he was not eligible for a provisional starting spot. He was placed on the grid for the consolation race, but after winning the Supersport race, Roger Hayden told reporters that he would not run in that race. Roger Hayden also expressed his unhappiness at AMA Pro Racing overlooking him in its determination of the Superbike Rookie of the Year selection.
