Aaron Yates will continue with the Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki team for the 2008 season. “We/American Suzuki have signed Aaron for 2008 to ride in the Superbike and Superstock classes,” Abbott told Roadracingworld.com Monday morning. “We’re really looking forward to having Aaron back and continuing development of our Superbike. We’ve really been focused on having a strong fourth quarter of the season, and this is one thing we wanted to have out of the way so we can concentrate on getting third in the Superbike Championship.” Yates (who has finished on the AMA Superbike podium two times in 2007) is currently fifth in the AMA Superbike Championship, eight points behind third-place Jake Zemke with three races remaining. Yates (who has one win and four podium finishes) is third in the Superstock Championship, one point behind second-place Ben Bostrom, and still has a mathematical shot at winning the Championship. Ben Spies currently leads the Superstock Championship by 51 points over Bostrom with two races remaining. Jordan Suzuki, according to Abbott, will most likely have a very similar program in 2008 — Yates in Superbike and Superstock and a second rider who will ride in Superstock and in Superbike on a Superstock-spec GSX-R1000. Jake Holden, Jordan Suzuki’s current second rider, is in negotiations for the second seat on the team. “Jake’s obviously a strong rider, and we’re hoping to have him back,” said Abbott. “He’s had some DNFs this year, but he’s also showed a lot of potential.” Jordan Suzuki is expected to put out an official announcement on Yates’ signing on Wednesday, August 22.
