Citing the rising costs and lack of financial backing, Jay Newton of Newton Racing LLC, will sit out the 2017 MotoAmerica season. The difficult decision was finalized upon the entry deadline for what would have been his home race and round one of competition at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. This comes after Newton had a strong finish to his 2016 season with a personal best P9 finish at Laguna Seca in the MotoAmerica Supersport/Superstock 600 combined classes, a P3 podium at an international race in China during the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival, and a pair of podiums and top five finishes at the WERA Grand National Finals.

With talent abound in this young man, Jay is not leaving racing behind altogether though. The team will compete in the American Flat Track series in the AFT Singles class aboard a Yamaha YZ450F, at as many races as their budget will allow. If he continues to perform the way he did at the Inaugural AFT Daytona TT, Newton looks to have a great rookie season. In his first ever flat track race, Newton took his stock Yamaha to the main, and scored very respectable points as he took P9 out of a beginning field of 67 riders.
