AMA Pro SuperSport Road Atlanta Preview DAYTONA BEACH, FL (April 9, 2010) – On paper, it would seem that the AMA Pro SuperSport series is being dominated by one rider. Joey Pascarella and his LTD Racing Yamaha have asserted themselves as the combination to beat with three wins in four races. But a closer look tells a story of how incredibly competitive this series for up-and-coming riders really is. At the season opener at Daytona, any number of riders could have won the first race and it was Rockwall Racing Yamaha rider Cameron Beaubier who emerged from the frantic pack of riders at the front to take the checkered flag by 0.001 of a second over Pascarella. Pascarella did win the second race in Daytona and then very convincingly swept both races at the Auto Club Speedway in March where Beaubier and a number of other East Division SuperSport competitors didn’t compete. But with everyone back on track for the April 16-18 Suzuki SuperBike Showdown at Road Atlanta, the battle will truly be rejoined. The AMA Pro Racing SuperSport class is the proving ground for the stars of tomorrow and this year the talent on display is considerable. Along with Pascarella and Beaubier, newcomers Huntley Nash and Tomas Puerta join Pascarella at LTD Racing riding Yamahas. Nash rode extremely well at Auto Club Speedway to take a third and then a second place on his first visit to the California track and Tomas took a third and fifth at Daytona. J.D. Beach on his Rockwall Yamaha returns for Road Atlanta, his speed was well evident at Daytona and he will surely be right at the front. Daniel Guevara, riding the Roadracingworld.com Suzuki had two solid top ten runs at Daytona and he is ready for the challenging Road Atlanta permanent road course track. Another part of the SuperSport series is the ability of local and other riders with an Expert level license from a recognized racing organization to participate in the SuperSport races as Top Gun riders alongside the Young Gun riders. A number of riders race in this category and at Auto Club Speedway, Top Gun rider Scott Gilbert showed what he could do by taking second and third in a very competitive showing. Sam Nash will be racing this weekend on his LTD Racing Yamaha and also Michael Corbino with his Aussie Dave Racing Yamaha. Many local riders will have the chance to compete with the ability to enter right up until 11:00 a.m. local time on Friday, April 16th. Another rider who has posted some very notable performances in SuperSport is Elena Myers riding the Richie Morris Racing Roadracingworld.com Suzuki. After an excellent pair of seventh place finishes at Daytona, Myers stepped up her form at Auto Club Speedway with a strong qualifying run to take a spot on the front row in fourth. Her first race was cut short by an unfortunate coming together with another rider seconds after the start but in the second race on Sunday, she recovered nicely to finish in fourth place. Practice and qualifying for the Suzuki SuperBike Showdown weekend at Road Atlanta begin Friday, April 16th. Final qualifying and race one of two in SuperSport will be at 4:15 p.m. local time on Saturday, April 17th. Sunday again has a full slate of exciting AMA Pro Road Racing races with the second SuperSport race starting at 1:45 PM local time, right after the Fan Walk and Opening Ceremonies.
