Young rode his GSX-R1000 to a lap time of 1:25.539, setting a new official AMA Superstock lap record, for the newly reconfigured and longer Road Atlanta circuit that includes the new and safer turn 12, but not the off-camber and catawampus new turn four. Young said, “I could feel that I was doing a good lap and I tried getting one more out of the tire but I slid a bit towards the end. I know the bike had more in it so I was upset that we ran out of time and I couldn’t go out once more with a new tire. I bet the first two splits on my last flying lap tell a story. I have the pole and I felt I could go faster; that’s good.” Leading the Superstock row two is Ryan Elleby on his Team Fuel Suzuki, with the fifth fastest time of qualifying. Joining Elleby on row two is Roadracingworld.com Suzuki’s Robertino Pietri, eighth quickest. On row three at ninth fastest is David Anthony, followed in 11th by an ever-healing Chris Ulrich, teammate to Pietri. Qualifying is qualifying and racing is racing, and in Saturday’s Formula Xtreme (FX) race, incredible Columbian Martin Cardenas rode his M4 EMGO Suzuki GSX-R600 to a thirdplace finish, leading a pack of Pirelli Diablo Superbike shod riders across the finish line and giving Pirelli four of the top-six places in FX. Battling tightly for the podium with Cardenas, all the way to the flag, were the two Attack Kawasaki riders, Steve Rapp and Chaz Davies. Just behind them Larry Pegram brought his Leo Vince/Foremost Insurance Ducati 848 home in sixth. With one race to go Rapp and Pegram are looking to decide which one of them will be second or third in the FX championship, with only nine points separating them and six more points between Rapp and second.
