Your Pace or Mine? Grab Top Spots Again With CMRA At NOLA

Your Pace or Mine? team riders Jeromy Kumper, Braeden Ortt, and Gavin Williams brought home the Ultra-LW GP And Overall Endurance wins once again in the second round of the Ultra-Lightweight Endurance series this past Saturday, March 11, 2017, at NOLA Motorsports Park.

The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) Saturday schedule began with Mini and Lightweight Sprints, and finished with the 8-Hour Ultra-Lightweight Endurance, bringing 10 hours of racing trackside to Avondale, Louisiana. Overcast skies and weather in the high 60’s to lower 70’s made for good track conditionson the 2.75-mile, 16-turn long course.

The Mini and Lightweight Sprint grids ran first, with over 30 bikes on the grid in combined entries each for the 500 Superstock, Ultra LW GP, E Superbike, 500 Superbike and 500 Classic lightweight sprints.

The 8-Hour Ultra-Lightweight Endurance race had a large turnout, with the endurance classes of Von Hertell Racing Services – 500 Superstock, 500 Classic, Ultra-Lightweight GP, Road & Track Suspension – E Superstock, and Formula 4 represented. As the 32 bike grid lined up for the start, the 3360 foot front straight was going to give the field a good sorting before Turn 1. The start lights went out, and MotoBros, Von Hertell/Harris Hill Racing, Your Pace Or Mine?, and KNYamaha.com were duking it out for the lead, with the MotoBros team of Cory Burleson, Isaiah Burleson, and Craig Thomson getting the upper hand on their Yamaha YZF-R3 and holding the lead at the end of Hour 1.

A light rain started falling on part of the course, heading into Hour 2, and shifted around, making the traction in parts of the track interesting. The MiniMotion team of Chris Headley, Jeff Hughes, Ryan Max Johnson, John Orchard, and Mark Windham slid into the lead aboard their Honda CBR500R, with Yamaha YZF-R3 mounted KNYamaha.com just behind them in second and Sport Rider Coaching, also on a Yamaha YZF-R3 moving into third around Honda CBR500R mounted Von Hertell/Harris Hill.Your Pace or Mine? had their hands full with Team Heavy Lightweights and Monkey Moto Tibs – all aboard Yamaha YZF-R3s. Heading into Hour 3, KNYamaha.com had a mechanical that caused a tip over and a red flag from a fuel spill that caught fire.

After a short pause, a full restart had the action back on with MiniMotion defending their lead from the Heavy Lightweights team of Dewayne Davis, Sean Gurevich, Ty Howard, and Carl Price, and Your Pace or Mine?, with Lawpup Racing pushing their Honda CBR500R past Sport Rider Coaching for fourth and Von Hertell/Antic Racing sneaking up into sixth on their Yamaha YZF-R3. With good battling all the way to the back of the grid, the continued light rain caught some teams up with a few tip overs, and lap times still remained fast as Hour 4 ticked past. Your Pace or Mine? pulled into the lead, turning the fastest lap of the race so far with a 1:58.484, with the Heavy Lightweights and Lawpup Racing on their tail.

Hour 5 saw the rain finally stop and the steady breeze dried the track out. Lap times stayed in the low 2:00’s, and Your Pace or Mine? stretched their lead on the field to two laps. The Sport Rider Coaching team of Ben Gooding, Rab McNaught, and David Rice pulled into second overall around HBR and Lawpup Racing, with MiniMotion back in fifth holding off Heavy Lightweights and the Von Hertell/Antic Racing of Isaac Bauman, Simon Cosmo Hertell, John McKenzie, and Jesse Smartt Heading into hour 6, Your Pace or Mine? turned the fastest lap of the race, turning a 1:58.009 on lap 139 and extending their lead to three laps over the entire field. Sport Rider Coaching held on to second, with MiniMotion shaking off Von Hertell/Antic Racing, Heavy Lightweights, and Von Hertell/Harris Hill to grab third.

During the final hour, the leaders held on to their spots with an iron grip, with Von Hertell/Antic Racing and team HBR toppling Heavy Lightweights to get fourth and fifth. Sport Rider Coaching narrowed the gap to 1 lap between first and second, and as the sky darkened, the race was called at approximately 6:05 pm with 35 minutes left due to low visibility from lack of daylight. Your Pace or Mine? took the Ultra-LW GP Endurance and overall wins with 194 laps completed. Sport Rider Coaching was next with second in Ultra-LW GP Endurance and overall, with a fastest lap of 2:01.579 and 193 laps. MiniMotion was next, with first in Von Hertell Racing Services – 500 Superstock Endurance and third overall, with a fastest lap of 2:02.642, and completing 192 laps. Von Hertell/Antic Racing was next, with third in Ultra LW GP Endurance and fourth overall, with a fastest lap of 2:03.332 and 191 laps. The HBR team of Dave Gallagher, Esteban Garcia, Isachar Perez, and David Sprague was next, with fourth in Ultra LW GP Endurance and fifth overall, with a fastest lap of 2:04.866 and 191 laps. Team Heavy Lightweights rounded out the top six, with fifth in Ultra LW GP Endurance, a fastest lap of 2:04.398 and 191 laps.
