Zac Schumacher had a stand out showing at Blackhawk Farms Raceway this past weekend, July 28-29, during the Championship Cup Series (CCS) twin sprint event in South Beloit, Illinois. Schumacher won five races including Sunday’s Unlimited Grand Prix race when he set the fastest lap of the weekend, a 1:09.361, on his OEM Technologies-sponsored Yamaha R1 equipped with Pirelli tires.

In the unlimited catagory, the best of the rest was Tony Storniolo and Tom Girard. Both riders were able to secure one win during the weekend. For the Amateurs, Michael Butler won an impressive eight races on his Yamaha R1

In the 600cc races, Jody Barry was the winingest Expert, taking top honors in nine of his eleven races and set the fastest 600 lap time, a 1:09.764, on his Farrell Performance Kawasaki ZX6R on Pirelli tires. This was a particularly impressive task since he came into the weekend with an injured shoulder. The middleweight racing was extremely close all weekend. Josh Rom was the only rider able to get around Barry, doing so in the Middleweight Supersport race, taking advantage of back-markers on the final lap. Zach Butler led the Amateur 600s, racking up seven wins over the two day event.

In the lightweight division Shannon Anderson frequented the top step a total of eight times on her Chick Power Racing Suzuki SV650 sporting Pirelli tires. The fastest lightweight lap time was a 1:15.626 done by Kevin Van Engan in the GTL race in which he won. In the Amateur category Ike Ozurumba led the field, notching several wins on his Bridgestone-equipped SV650.

For the ultralight classes, Drew Jankord set the pace taking seven victories on his Motorcycle Supply-supported Kawasaki Ninja running Pirelli tires. Bruce Barry kept Jankord honest while riding his Kawasaki Ninja and found the top step a total of three times. The closest race of the entire weekend was between Bruce Barry and Jonathan Grow, both on Pirelli shod Ninja 300s. The entire race the two riders were glued to each other, trading positions multiple times per lap. On the final lap, the gap at the finish line was 0.000 seconds! Jonathan Grow was credited with the win in the “photo finish.”

The next round of CCS Midwest region will be held at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, Illinois, on Aug 18-19th. There will be a full day of practice on Saturday with action-packed racing all day Sunday.
